Job summary

A student services organization in Ontario is seeking an Events Coordinator to create events that foster community and solidarity among diverse groups. This volunteer position requires strong leadership and communication skills. Candidates should have experience in event planning and a commitment to an inclusive environment, beginning September 2024 until April 2025.

Qualifications

  • Event planning experience is an asset.
  • Participation in Diversity Services Training sessions required.
  • Previous experience in an anti-racist environment is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Create events that build community and solidarity.
  • Supervise a committee of volunteers.
  • Work closely with the Social and Political Advocacy Coordinator.

Job description

  • MSU Diversity & Equity Network exists in order to celebrate unite and advocate with the variety of diverse groups on campus within the realm of race ethnicity culture faith and Indigenous affairs. In order to accomplish this we help to plan support and promote events that allow McMaster students to fully experience the differences that make our campus unique.

    Recognizing the state of inequity on campus our service acts to advocate for an inclusive environment in which marginalized groups feel welcome and free to embrace their identity.

    The Events Coordinator(s ) are responsible for creating events that build community and solidarity amongst the groups supported by Diversity Services. All programming will be built upon an anti-racist anti-oppressive and intersectional framework. The Events Coordinator(s) will (co-)supervise a committee of volunteers and will also work closely with the Social and Political Advocacy Coordinator to plan events for educational campaigns.

    • Ability to coordinate others and take initiative to ensure successful completion of tasks

    • Effort required to integrate various individuals and groups on campus so as to ensure an inclusive environment for all
    • Effort required to think creatively
    • Effort required to plan and execute events
    • Responsible for maintaining an appropriate and positive image of the MSU
    • Working Conditions

    • Most work can be completed in a shared office space
    • Time demands may exceed stated hours of work
    • Training and Experience

    • Event planning experience is an asset
    • Participation in all Diversity Services Training sessions required (provided)
    • Previous experience working in an anti-racist anti-oppressive environment is an asset
