Global-Technical-Talent-1 is seeking an MS SQL Database Administrator in Toronto for a 6‑month contract. Hybrid in‑office schedule (Tuesday in office) with strong Azure MSSQL, Oracle and SQL Server experience.

You will manage incidents, performance tuning, security, and DR strategies while collaborating with a large financial services team. The role emphasizes independent ownership, complex troubleshooting, and opportunities for career growth within a global institution.

Qualificações

• 5-7 years of experience in Azure Cloud database (Focus on MSSQL).

• Experience in tuning, query optimization, monitoring and troubleshooting database issues

Responsabilidades

• Taking ownership of and leading technical resolutions for production incidents
• Communicating clearly complex technical issues to stakeholders and Lines of Business partners
• Complying with standards for change control and overall database security policies
• Analyzing recurring incidents and identifying service improvements where possible
• Providing on-call rotational/pager support where required
• Participating in incidents and changes as part of BAU operational activities
• Participating in scheduled Disaster Recovery or SCM activities
• Participating in post-mortems and RCAs of critical incidents
• Install, configure, and maintain Oracle and SQL Server databases
• Optimize database performance, including indexing, query tuning, and resource management
• Ensure database security by implementing best practices for user access control, encryption, and auditing
• Implement native security features in Oracle (TDE, Data Redaction, Database Vault) and SQL Server (TDE, Always Encrypted)
• RAC, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) strategies
• Automate database monitoring and maintenance tasks

MS SQL Database Administrator

Location: Toronto, ON

Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid — in office every Tuesday

Contract Details

• Position Type: Contract
• Contract Duration: 6 months (with possibility for extension or conversion to FTE, depending on budget and performance)
• Pay Rate: C$65.00–C$75.00 / Hour (CAD)
• Shift / Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM; 37.5 hours/week; some flexibility with work hours; overtime may be required; weekends may be required (on-call); rotating on-call standby — one person per week on standby

Job Summary

This MS SQL Database Administrator role supports a large financial institution's database operations across Capital Markets, PBBT, and Retail Banking lines of business. The team consists of 20 DBAs subdivided into two sub‑teams responsible for supporting databases across various lines of business, performing complex troubleshooting, code deployment, and BAU activities. The contractor will provide database support related to Oracle build, migration, performance tuning, and incident resolutions. This is a highly independent role where strong initiative is required, and the team offers close‑knit collaboration, strong technical leadership, mentorship, and genuine opportunities for career growth. Core values of the team are teamwork, trust, and accountability. The candidate will work closely with Solution Design, DB Engineering, Information Security teams, and external vendors.
