Job summary

IWK Health in Halifax seeks an MRI Technologist to operate MRI equipment and deliver high-quality imaging for diagnostic purposes. You will assess requisitions, screen patients for safety, perform post-processing, and ensure accurate data transfer to PACS, while maintaining a safe MRI environment.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team, hold recognized MRT training, and maintain CAMRT/NSCMIRTP eligibility.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a recognized Medical Radiation Technology program required.
• Current or eligible CAMRT registration required.
• Current or eligible NSCMIRTP licensure required.
• BLS certification within the last 12 months or renewal challenge accepted.

Responsibilities

• Operate MRI and related equipment with minimal supervision.
• Assess requisitions and obtain pertinent patient history for MRI.
• Screen patients for MRI safety and possible contrast reactions.
• Post-process acquired images and transfer data to PACS.
• Maintain MRI safe environment and provide MRI safety education.
• Perform clerical duties related to patient care and data transfer to PACS.

The Opportunity

The MRI Technologist, under the general supervision of the area supervisor and department manager is responsible for the operation of the MRI and accessory equipment requiring minimum supervision, independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Performing MRI procedures for the purpose of medical diagnosis including: assessing requisitions for appropriate examinations; obtaining pertinent history and screening patients for MRI safety and possible contrast reactions, providing patient care and monitoring of patients, selecting techniques and positioning patients; post-processing acquired images, maintaining an MRI safe environment and providing MRI safety education, practicing sterile techniques when required; and performance of clerical duties related to the care of the patient including ensuring the accuracy and transfer of data to PACS.

Hours of Work

75 hours biweekly, plus rotational standby and callback.

Your Qualifications

• Graduate of a recognized school of Medical Radiation Technology required.
• Current or eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) required.
• Current or eligible for licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCMIRTP) required.
• Successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support (BLS) Program in the last 12 months required or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate required.
• Demonstrated ability to make independent technical decisions and work as part of an interdisciplinary team, required.
• Must be willing to obtain continuing education. Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Competencies in other languages an asset.

Successful external applicants may be eligible to receive a one-time Signing Bonus of $10,000. In turn, a Return of Service will be required for a (2) two-year period.

External successful applicants may be eligible to receive up to $5000.00 relocation support.
