Job summary

City of Mississauga seeks a fleet technician capable of mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic repairs across the corporate fleet. Apprentices will be paid a percentage of the technician rate depending on apprenticeship level, with strong emphasis on safety and efficiency.

The role requires five years of licensed technician experience, 310T/310S where possible, and the ability to read schematics and diagnose faults. Based in Mississauga, 40-hour days with union CUPE.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education and valid Certificates of Qualification as 310T and 310S.
• Preference for both 310T and 310S certificates.
• Apprentices and those with one license may be considered and paid per collective agreement.
• Five years of experience as a licensed technician with fleet repair experience.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and diagnose faults with computers.
• Valid Ontario driver’s license (Class G) with clean record; DZ preferred.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate must be able to perform various mechanical, electrical and diagnostic repairs on our diverse fleet of City vehicles and equipment. The City hires Apprentices who will be paid a percentage of the rate paid to Motor Vehicle Technicians depending on level of Apprenticeship.

Duties and Responsibilities

• The successful applicant must be able to perform a variety of preventative maintenance and diversified repairs on the corporate fleet.
• Perform maintenance and repairs to the corporate fleet as set forth by the policy of the Fleet Maintenance Section.
• Complete work assigned on work orders in a timely manner with mandatory consultation with the Supervisor on all items of concern.
• Competently read electrical schematics and use computers to diagnose electrical and electronic system faults.
• Work independently with minimum supervision.
• Must be skilled in the use of all tools and equipment related to the trade.
• Must provide all necessary hand tools to perform required fleet repairs.
• Must stay current with new technologies and equipment to perform repairs.

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 education along with valid Certificates of Qualification as a Truck & Coach Technician (310T), and Automotive Service Technician (310S); trade licenses from the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
• Preference will be given to candidates who possess valid Certificates of Qualification as both a Truck & Coach Technician (310T) and an Automotive Service Technician (310S).
• Candidates holding only one of the required licenses (310T or 310S), as well as apprentices registered with Skilled Trades Ontario for the required licenses, may be considered and will be remunerated in accordance with the collective agreement.
• Technicians holding both 310T and 310S licenses will be remunerated as a Motor Vehicle Technician as per the collective agreement. Candidates holding only a 310T or 310S license will be considered an Apprentice and remunerated as an Apprentice as per the collective agreement until the second license is attained.
• Five (5) years of experience as a Licensed Technician, including four (4) years of experience working in a repair facility performing fleet maintenance on a wide variety of off‑road equipment and light, medium, and heavy‑duty commercial vehicles.
• Additional courses in the Technician’s trade will be an asset.
• Experience in gas and electric (Arc and Mig) welding.
• Familiarity with computerized work orders and time logging.
• Must be able to read electrical schematics and have experience in the use of computers to diagnose electrical and electronic system faults.
• Must be able to work on the corporate fleet under inclement weather conditions from time to time.
• Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, WHMIS and hazardous goods, and the Ministry of Transportation Highway Traffic Act.
• Natural Gas certificate ICE‑NG is an asset.
