Job summary

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Mortuary Support/Biomedical Support Worker to assist in the mortuary and, where needed, histology laboratory. The role covers receipt and release of the deceased, data entry, and liaison with funeral directors and Coroners’ officers.

Training will be provided, with weekend on-call duties possible. The post holder will work within a multidisciplinary team, maintaining accurate records and complying with health and safety requirements

Qualifications

• GCSE grade A-C / 4-9 in English and Maths and a similar grade in science is highly desirable.
• Car and clean driving licence; previous relevant experience desirable but training provided.

Responsibilities

• Receive and record the receipt of deceased from wards and other sources.
• Match details on deceased with paperwork and assign unique mortuary register number.
• Data entry into the mortuary computer system with accuracy.
• Undress deceased and place in refrigerator, using mechanical hoist when possible.
• Liaise with undertakers and record release/removal of deceased and property.
• Prepare disinfectants and perform routine decontamination and cleaning of mortuary rooms and environs.
• Assist with deceased preparation for post-mortem and tissue donation.
• Maintain IT skills to input and amend deceased records and interrogate databases.
