An established academic institution is seeking a dedicated Mortician to support its Body Donor Program. This role involves physical retrieval, embalming, and maintaining donor bodies for anatomy education. The UW SMPH Body Donor Program is looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented person to fill a temporary position of Mortician. The UW SMPH Body Donor Program is an academic, human body donation program. The study of human anatomy is an essential component of medical education. The UW-Madison and partner institutions within the State of Wisconsin depend heavily on donors in order to continue to provide advanced anatomy education to students entering the health professions (medical, physical and occupational therapy, physician assistant students, as well as residents-in-training and practicing physicians).
The best qualified applicants for the Mortician position will be enthusiastic and compassionate and have excellent communication and organizational skills. The Mortician will be required to correspond with prospective donors and family members of current donors, and must communicate in a sensitive, courteous, and helpful manner.
Primary responsibilities of the Mortician position include physical retrieval, transporting, embalming (apprentice may assist lead mortician), storage, and final disposition of donor bodies. The Mortician position will assist with preparation and maintenance of donor bodies and anatomy laboratory equipment and spaces for health science professional anatomy courses on the UW-Madison campus and preparation, transport, and coordination of loans to partner institutions within Wisconsin. On-call availability (24 hours/day, alternating weeks) and in-state travel is required for the position.
Additional responsibilities of the Mortician position include completing, filing, and maintaining all required documentation related to body donation, death certificate and cremation permit submission as required by the State of Wisconsin. Apprentice may assist lead mortician with this work.
The ideal candidate would work 2-3 days during the work week, every other weekend/some nights for on call transports. We are eager to fill the position and will work with the right candidate to find a schedule that works for them.

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree or Associate's degree in mortuary science from accredited school.
Required:
- Enrolled in or completion of accredited mortuary science degree
- Active funeral director or funeral director apprentice license in WI
Preferred:
- Knowledge of Wisconsin Statute 157.06 and 2006 Uniform Anatomical Gift Act
- Embalming experience

Travel is required. Must provide a valid driver's license. Employees may use their own transportation or receive approval for University Car Fleet usage.
