Job summary

G&W Canada Corporation is seeking a Mold Maintenance Technician to ensure molds are set up, maintained, and ready for production in the molding operation. You will act as a bridge between molding, tooling engineering, and process engineering to sustain mold reliability and minimize downtime.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordinating with internal teams and contractors to resolve tooling issues.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary certificate, diploma, or Skill trade certification in mechanical techniques, Millwright (Industrial Mechanic) or Tool and Die.
  • Experience in mold setup, mold maintenance, tooling, injection molding, or related manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, presses, and measuring devices.
  • Experience performing basic electrical troubleshooting, plumbing repairs, mechanical repairs. Carpentry and painting and contractor coordination.
  • Ability to identify tooling wear and mechanical issues.
  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, cranes, and hoists.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mold set-up and changeovers in coordination with production planning and molding operations.
  • Verify mold configurations, tooling components, and setup readiness prior to production start.
  • Perform mold breakdown and teardown activities following production runs.
  • Execute preventive and planned maintenance on molds, including cleaning, inspection, lubrication, and replacement of wear components.
  • Inspect molds and components for wear, damage, or performance concerns including bushings, pins, inserts, fasteners, and other critical tooling elements.
  • Troubleshoot mold-related production issues and assist in identifying root cause of setup, tooling, or maintenance concerns.
  • Coordinate with Tooling Engineering, Molding personnel and third‑party contractors to resolve tooling issues and support corrective actions.
  • Maintain mold storage, inventory, tooling records, and traceability of tooling components.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and tooling condition using established systems and forms.
  • Safely operate cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other lifting equipment for mold movement, setup, and storage.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on mold reliability, setup efficiency, PM effectiveness, and reduction of downtime.
  • Maintain safe work practices and ensure compliance with all company procedures, safety standards, and regulations.
  • Train and support team members on standardized setup and maintenance procedures as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of tooling and molding operations.
  • Be available for other maintenance related activities supporting production needs.

Job description

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Mold Maintenance Technician will be responsible for mold set-up, changeover, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair support, and overall mold readiness within the molding operation. This role ensures tooling is properly configured, maintained, and production-ready to support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing performance. The Mold Maintenance role serves as a key link between molding operations, tooling engineering, and process engineering by supporting mold reliability, minimizing downtime, and identifying tooling issues requiring corrective action or escalation.

  • Perform mold set-up and changeovers in coordination with production planning and molding operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude complimented with strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, presses, and measuring devices

  • Mold repair experience
  • Millwright or Mechanical experience
  • Skill Trades Certification (Millwright, Tool & Die)

Physical Demands / Working Conditions:
  • Shop environment; climate controlled, indoors
  • Flexible Hours
  • Light Lifting (occasional 25 lbs or less)
  • Standing

Pay Range is typically between $23.14 to $31.51 per hour
