Job summary

Svante is seeking a MOF Chemist Co-op in Burnaby to contribute to the research and development of advanced sorbent materials for carbon capture, focusing on porous MOF materials. You will perform lab-based MOF synthesis, characterization, and data analysis, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in Burnaby.

The role provides hands-on experience with CO₂ sorbents and related polymer sorbents, contributing to innovative projects while supporting Svante's safety and lean culture.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing 3rd or 4th year in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related field with 8+ months of lab experience.
  • Experience with laboratory synthesis and purification; small-molecule synthesis is an asset.
  • Proficient in characterization techniques (TGA, gas sorption, FTIR, SEM, XRD, NMR) for data analysis.
  • Knowledge of NMR interpretation and related computational methods is an asset but not required.
  • Attention to detail, time management, adaptability, and ability to work independently with cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Safely conduct MOF synthesis, characterization, and property investigations for CO₂ capture.
  • Generate reliable experimental data and apply characterization techniques to evaluate sorbent structure and performance.
  • Review literature to support sorbent development and contribute to projects and discussions.
  • Communicate findings through technical reports, presentations, and Excel analyses.
  • Maintain organized experiments, inventories, SDS, and purchasing requests, aligned with Svante safety culture.
