Under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Extern and Student Pathway Coordinator, as well as the Charge Nurse or Nurse-in-Charge, the Mobility/Activity Extern will provide support to clinical inpatient nursing units. The Mobility/Activity Extern will be assisting with basic mobility exercises, patient ambulation, and transfers/ positioning. The Mobility/Activity Extern may also assist with basic
activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
Education & Experience
- Current enrollment as an occupational therapy student in a training program accredited by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) OR as an physical therapy student in a training program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC) OR current enrollment in Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree Program or Practical Nursing Diploma
- Minimum of 1 clinical placement successfully completed, preferred
- Experience working with, or interacting with patients in a rehabilitation, complex care or seniors rehabilitation environment, preferred
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists with basic mobility exercises, ambulation, positioning, and patient transfers as directed
- Provides support to patients during mealtimes, including meal tray setup and assistance as needed
- Contributes to group therapy support under the direction of Allied staff
- Demonstrates understanding of the principles of rehabilitation and the rehabilitation process, is an asset
