Job summary

Fraser Health is seeking a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse to provide person-centered care for individuals with mental illness and/or substance use issues. You will work with police to respond to 911 mental health calls and coordinate care with the interprofessional team.

The role involves crisis intervention, medication management, client advocacy, and collaborative care planning within Fraser Health's mission and values.

Qualifications

• Graduation from approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
• Two years recent related experience in mental health and/or concurrent disorders.
• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.
• Successful completion of Enhanced Security Police Clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Responds to crisis situations by coordinating with police and other emergency providers, providing outreach and crisis intervention.
• Assesses for lethality, threats of violence, suicide risk, and urgency in coordination with the police.
• Assesses clients’ needs and available services; develops treatment options and refers to community resources.
• Screens and intervenes in urgent response situations per established protocols.
• Provides medication management per physician orders and monitors effects.
• Collaborates with interprofessional care team to adjust care plans.
• Documents assessments, care plans, interventions, and outcomes for regulatory compliance.
• Participates in research and quality improvement activities.
• Provides health education to clients, families, and consumer groups.
• Advocates for clients and ensures access to programs, resources, and crisis stabilization.
• Promotes the Mobile Integrated Crisis Response Program and participates in committees.
• Participates in case conferences for community care planning.
• Identifies learning needs and pursues professional development.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
