Job summary

Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) in Winnipeg, MB, seeks a Mobile Crisis Response Training Assistant to prepare and coordinate logistic support for capacity enhancement training and assist with train-the-trainer sessions for First Nations communities.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of experience in crisis response, administration, logistics, or a related support role.
• Knowledge of First Nations traditional healing practices or related cultural support experience.
• ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and NVCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) training preferred.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel.
• Current Police Security Clearance and satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

Mobile Crisis Response Training Assistant

Full Time Position – Winnipeg, MB

Reporting to the Program Manager and working in collaboration with the Crisis Response Training Coordinator, the Mobile Crisis Response Training Assistant is responsible for preparing, coordinating, and providing logistical support for the “Community-Based Crisis Team Development” Capacity Enhancement Training. The role supports the delivery of train-the-trainer and community-based training for First Nations developing or enhancing crisis response teams. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and coordinating travel to Manitoba First Nations, providing crisis counselling support during the Coordinator’s workshop facilitation, and maintaining strong administrative practices.

Role and Responsibilities

• Travel to remote and isolated First Nations communities throughout Manitoba to support community-based crisis team development.
• Assist with Train-the-Trainer sessions at Tribal Council locations, including support for independent First Nations without Tribal Council affiliations.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate travel to First Nations communities in alignment with training delivery timelines.
• Work within approved budgets to support Train-the-Trainer deliverables and assist the Coordinator as required.
• Prepare travel expense claims and budget-related requests for Program Manager approval.
• Coordinate training logistics, including files, supplies, facilities, catering, travel arrangements, and responses to participant inquiries.
• Prepare cheque requisitions for rentals, catering, supplies, equipment, and other training-related materials.
• Ensure all materials, equipment, and travel arrangements are in place before each scheduled training delivery.
• Provide emotional support, crisis counselling, and supportive listening to participants during workshop facilitation.
• MKO is political advocacy organization that works to represent the leadership and member First Nations. All staff at MKO may be given other duties as assigned that enable MKO to fulfill the mandate and responsibility to its member communities.

Education and Experience

• Knowledge of First Nations traditional healing practices, with experience as a Traditional Elder, Spiritual Leader, or in a related cultural support role.
• Three to five years of experience in crisis response, administration, logistics, or a related support role.
• Previous experience as a training facilitator, counsellor, administrative assistant, or in a similar role.
• First-hand experience delivering crisis response services in Manitoba First Nations communities.
• Knowledge of traditional and modern education and training techniques.
• Ability to support the full training cycle, including planning, budgeting, delivery, and evaluation.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel.
• Working knowledge of the Internet, email, and business-related computer software.
• Completion of, or willingness to complete and practice, ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).
• Completion of, or willingness to complete and practice, NVCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention).
• Current Police Security Clearance and satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including clearance to work with vulnerable women, youth, and children.
• Preference will be given to First Nations candidates.
