Job description

Location: The Board positions are open across Canada, with a focus on British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec.


The Board is actively seeking up to six qualified candidates.

Being a Mitacs Board member allows you to oversee the strategic direction and operations of a prominent Canadian innovation intermediary. You will network with leaders from across the country. The Board guides strategy, risk management, and oversees an executive team managing an annual budget of approximately $270M to promote innovation, attract, and retain talent in Canada.


KEY COMMITMENTS:

  1. Strong background in corporate governance and oversight of strategy, risk, and operations of a national or regional organization.
  2. Act as an ambassador of Mitacs.
  3. Time and travel commitments:
  • The Board meets four times per year. Participation in scheduled meetings is required. Travel expenses are covered by Mitacs.
  • Members are expected to join at least one Committee.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada for meetings.
  • Commitment of up to 8-12 hours per meeting cycle.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  1. Experience in corporate governance within for-profit or not-for-profit sectors.
  2. Creative, effective problem solver and collaborator to enhance Mitacs’s contribution to innovation and productivity.
  3. Understanding of research and innovation’s role in economic growth and social progress.
  4. Backgrounds in government, post-secondary leadership, private sector leadership, or finance are preferred. French language skills are an asset.
