Job description

This is a full-time one-year TERM position (anticipatory permanent) working 75 hours bi-weekly.

Temporary Assignment will be considered. Please have supervisors approval prior to applying.

Established eligibility list may be used for other Mining Lands Officer positions throughout the territory.

About the Branch :

Since the Gold Rush of 1898 mining has featured prominently in building and defining the Yukons economy shaping its communities and contributing to its economic development. In the modern-day context Yukon Government controls and administers its natural resources including its minerals. The Mineral Resources branch administers the Quartz Mining Act Placer Mining Act and regulations through the Mining Recorder offices in Whitehorse Watson Lake Dawson and Mayo.

The branch is responsible for the disposition and administration of mineral resources within the Yukon providing education and outreach on the regulatory regime to support responsible mining land use and mineral planning and development to the mining industry communities and governments.

About the Position :

Working as a member of the Mining Recorders team the Mining Lands Officer is responsible for coordinating government response to assessment recommendations on mineral exploration projects developing Decision Documents and approvals providing advice and guidance for the acquisition and retention of mineral title to the mining community; evaluating processing and making recommendations for the acceptance or rejection of applications; and assists in the day to day client service of the mining recorders office . Essential Qualifications

  • Post-secondary coursework in business or office administration project management natural resource management mineral exploration environmental science social science environmental assessment or related field;
  • Experience working in a client service setting providing information to and working collaboratively with the general public and diverse client groups;
  • Experience researching and drafting correspondence for review;
  • Experience updating and maintaining databases and filing systems according to internal standards;
  • Experience in working with land or resource management legislation / regulatory documents preferably in a government setting would be an asset;
  • Experience working with Indigenous groups to share and gather information on Indigenous rights interests values and concerns would be an asset.

Candidates who have a combination of education training and experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.

Additional Information

Conditions of Employment : Obtain Notary Public appointment within six months of hire.

Job Requirements : Willingness to travel to Yukon communities is a requirement of this position.
