Job description
Overview

Join to apply for the Mining Laboratory Analyst role at Bureau Veritas North America

The Mining Laboratory Analyst will perform routine duties relating to the preparation and processing of samples, including sample receiving, sample preparation, XRF sample fusion and analysis as well as other analytical processes as required.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all laboratory operations including sample login, sample preparation, fusion process, XRF analysis, data validation & reporting
  • Prepare geological samples by crushing, pulverizing, or sieving according to Standard Operating Procedures without deviation unless authorized by the Manager
  • Accurately conduct routine and non-routine analyses of samples using the appropriate method and in accordance with the established reporting schedule
  • Compile, review, and interpret analytical results
  • Perform regular maintenance of sample preparation equipment, XRF, automated fusion machines, chillers, and other ongoing scheduled equipment maintenance
  • Evaluate control charts on a regular basis and report anomalies
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in various areas of the laboratory
  • Proactive monitoring of analytical charts and other quality issues that may arise during routine sample analysis, with documented resolution to issues
  • Ensure compliance with all client site HSE / HR policies and procedures as well as BV Group Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the position
  • Participate in monthly worksite inspections of their area
  • Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE)

Education, Certifications, and Experience
  • Science degree, or diploma in science with relevant experience in a similar laboratory environment
  • Chemistry experience and understanding of chemistry principles
  • Previous experience with minerals sample preparation is an asset
  • Previous experience with XRF fusion and analysis is an asset
  • Working knowledge of laboratory procedures, WHMIS and GLP
  • Training in forklifts and manual handling practices are assets
  • Experience with shift work and mine camp living
Physical and Environmental Conditions
  • Shift position consisting of 14-days in, 14-days out cycle
  • 12-hour shifts working in a Minerals lab
  • Potential exposure to dust generated from the sample preparation process, working with acids, fluxes and other laboratory chemicals
  • Safely perform physically demanding tasks with repeated lifting
  • Ability to handle weights of up to 40 lbs. for prolonged periods
Travel Requirements
  • Shift position working on a 14-day cycle. The candidate will need to be based in Saskatoon or along the bus line running to site for ease of transport to site
