Job summary

Orano Canada invites applications for a Mining Geologist (6 Month Term) at the McClean Lake site. The role reports to the Principal Resource Geologist and supports exploration through field data logging, data entry, and core handling.

The candidate should hold a geology degree (B.Sc./M.Sc.) with 4+ years in exploration, preferably with uranium experience, and be comfortable working at a remote site with a 14 day in/14 day out rotation.

Qualifications

• University degree in geology (B.Sc., M.Sc.)
• 4+ years' experience in exploration
• P.Geo designation or eligibility in Saskatchewan is an asset
• Solid background in geology and structural geology
• Experience in uranium exploration is an asset
• Good computer skills; familiarity with Leapfrog, acQuire, Vulcan, ArcGIS and MS Office an asset
• Ability to interpret and summarize large data sets
• Ability to work in remote locations with challenging terrain
• Valid Class 5 driver's license
• Experience with snowmobiles/ATVs is an asset

Responsibilities

• Work on designated Orano mining projects as directed.
• Provide logistical and technical support for exploration/development programs.
• Collect and interpret field data related to drill core logging.
• Enter data in project databases with accuracy.
• Assist with daily core handling (measuring, sampling, photography).
• Assist with down hole probing data acquisition.
• Present results: maps, sections, tables.
• Supervise geotechnicians.
• Possibly act as designate for Project Geologist or Principal Resource Geologist.
• Enforce IMS roles and promote OE culture.

Reports to the Principal Resource Geologist

Responsibilities include:

• Work on designated Orano mining projects as directed, based on operational requirements
• Provide logistical and technical support for exploration/development programs as directed. These duties include, but are not limited to:
• Collecting and interpreting field data primarily related to the logging of drill core
• Entering data in project database ensuring accuracy, completeness, and thoroughness
• Assisting with daily core handling functions (measuring, sampling, photography, moving full core boxes, etc.)
• Assisting or completing down hole probing data acquisition
• Providing, as required, written / oral presentation of results: maps, sections, tables, etc.
• Supervision of geo-technicians
• May be required to act as the designate for the Project Geologist or Principal Resource Geologist during his/her absence
• Must be fully aware of one’s role and responsibilities as defined in the Orano Integrated Management System (IMS), as a Geologist and as a possible Contract Administrator, and enforce them with employees and contractors

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

• University degree in geology (B.Sc., M.Sc.)
• 4+years' of experience in exploration
• Professional Geoscientist designation or eligible for registration as P. Geo in Saskatchewan is considered an asset
• Solid background in geology and structural geology
• Experience in uranium exploration is an asset
• Good computer skills are essential; familiarity with Leapfrog, acQuire, Vulcan, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office are an asset
• Demonstrated understanding of the geology of prospects and deposits, with a discovery-oriented mindset and motivated to advance exploration opportunities
• Ability to interpret and clearly summarize large amounts of data
• Must be fit (physically and mentally) to work in remote locations with challenging terrain
• Valid Class 5 driver's license
• Experienced in the use of snowmobiles, ATV’s or equivalent and four wheel drive trucks is an asset
• Good verbal and written communication skills, sharing information with other mining team members
• Ability to make thoughtful, well informed decisions
• Developed interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to challenging and isolated work environments

Work Location & Schedule:

• McClean Lake; fly in/fly out remote work site
• 14 day in/ 14 day out rotating schedule
• Normally an 11 hour work day, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required
• Occasional work from the Saskatoon Corporate Office may be required

Salary Range:

$118,350 - $139,200

Compensation to be determined based on the selected candidate’s level of skill, education, and experience, and may vary within, the posted salary range.

Fly Day- This position will fly in and fly out on Friday

Pick-Up Points: Saskatoon, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Buffalo Narrows and the designated communities in the Athabasca region of Uranium City, Stony Rapids, Fond du Lac, and Wollaston.

As a condition of employment the successful candidate must complete Orano's pre-employment checks including education verification and employment reference checks.
