Job summary

Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) is offering mining engineering internship opportunities in Calgary, AB or Fort McMurray, AB. Roles span Mine Technology, Mine Planning, Mine Operations Projects, Mine Survey and Tailings Planning with terms of 4, 8, 12 or 16 months starting January, May or September 2027.

Candidates should be enrolled in a related bachelor’s degree and demonstrate motivation, teamwork, and physical fitness.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Mining, Mineral or Geological engineering preferred (Civil engineering acceptable).
• Motivated and positive attitude; ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Support mine and tailings operations through performance monitoring, design work, analyzing trends, optimizing production efficiencies.
• Design haul roads, earth structures, tailings storage structures and pit walls.
• Assist in budgeting by providing inputs for the annual mine operations budget.
• Assist in planning scenarios and design work to determine the best economic path forward.
• Detailed scheduling to support mine, tailings and project execution plans.

Key Accountabilities

• Support mine and tailings operations through performance monitoring, design work, analyzing trends, optimizing production efficiencies
• Design work including haul roads, earth structures, tailings storage structures and pit walls
• Assist in the budget process by collaboratively providing inputs to develop the annual mine operations budget
• Assist in different planning scenarios and design work to determine best economic path forward
• Detailed scheduling to support mine, tailings and project execution plans

What You Bring To The Role

• Currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree program in Mining, Mineral or Geological engineering is preferred (Civil engineering is also acceptable)
• Motivated and positive attitude
• Previous engineering or field experience is considered an asset
• Required to be physically and mentally fit for work
• Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract
• A pre-employment drug screening test must be successfully completed
