Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA), and The University of Manitoba, and Department of Surgery (business addresses noted below), are inviting applications for a Minimally Invasive Surgeon to commence on July 1, 2025 (or on a date mutually agreed upon). Main job duties include diagnosis and treatment of diseases, prescribing medications and treatment, ordering lab tests and other diagnostic procedures, consulting with other physicians as required, which job duties encompass 70% of the position. Job duties are required in English.
The successful candidate would also be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor and appointed as a geographical full-time member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, which job duties encompass 30% of the position.
The successful candidate will integrate into a successful academic general surgery group with strong commitments to clinical excellence, research, education, and academic administration. The clinical focus will be broad-based and may include laparoscopic foregut surgery, such as hiatal surgery, solid organ surgery (e.g., adrenal and spleen), and abdominal wall reconstruction. Advanced laparoscopic skills are essential. Endoscopy time is included in our surgical resources.
This position will be based primarily out of St Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. This is one of the main tertiary care hospitals for Manitoba, Northwest Ontario, and portions of Nunavut, with a catchment of 1.5 million people.
The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in General Surgery. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. The candidate must have expertise in managing a busy acute care general surgery service, including application of their advanced minimally invasive skill set to complex surgical problems. Additional postgraduate training in research or education would be a significant asset.
Compensation is derived from fee-for-service income with a Minimum Income Guarantee. Specialty Physicians may be eligible for a recruitment incentive.
