Schedule: Monday to Friday – 10 hr. shifts, alternating Saturday, early morning starts 6am
Summary
YORK1 drivers are responsible for the safe operation of heavy-duty trucks and are responsible for the safe movement, transport and dumping of containers filled with waste or recyclable material. Driver navigates high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, construction sites, landfill and transfer stations.
Responsibilities
Operational
- Perform pre- and post-inspections of assigned vehicle/equipment and document checks utilizing our standard forms and/or our online tools.
- Drive roll-off truck along designated commercial and residential routes to collect construction debris and take it to the landfill or transfer station for disposal.
- Inspect drop off area according to safety and delivery standards.
- Responsible for 10-15 runs per day (Hamilton, Niagara area, GTHA).
- Clean loose trash off truck and/or ground around truck and container that spills during dumping process to maintain clean customer site and safety along roads and highways.
- Clean waste debris from the truck body on each transfer or landfill run.
- Tarp bins to ensure no debris exits bin (manual or automatic).
- Comply with all transportation laws and procedures.
Customer Service- Courteously interacts with customers and/or the public along the route to answer questions, concerns, or respond to requests.
- Where appropriate, leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Position containers on the customer’s property in a manner that ensures containers do not block driveway entrances or traffic.
Safety- Operate vehicle in accordance with YORK1's Health and Safety Rules, Programs and Policies, OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, provincial and federal laws.
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service-related issues to Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required.
- Notify Management of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify Management or Dispatch of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed lots, streets, alleyways or potential safety hazards.
- Identify and report all containers in need of repair or replacement.
Reporting- Properly track and document activity log.
- Report any issues or incidents to dispatch.
- Notify supervisor of issues requiring management action.
- Maintain and submit daily route/productivity sheet, and vehicle condition report.
- Complete and submit the vehicle condition report at the end of the shift to the maintenance manager.
Qualifications- Minimum 3 Year commercial driving experience.
- Minimum 1 year driving experience with Roll Off Trucks (Tandem, Tri-Axel, 13-18 speed, manual transmission Roll Truck with cable cord).
- AZ/DZ Ontario driver’s license.
- Clean drivers Abstract, and CVOR.

Working Conditions- Required to use motor coordination with arm, hand, finger, and leg dexterity continuously and repeatedly throughout a 10 – 12-hour shift.
- Requires pulling, bending, twisting, climbing, sitting, and lifting repeatedly up to 40lbs (disconnect and reconnect bins/cable).
