ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Miner I to join our Mine Operations team reporting to the Mine Supervisor.

Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in Northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometers northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometers by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is situated int eh area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 2 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.

The Miner I will be responsible for the safe and effective operation of the rope and hydraulic shovel, while ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Safely operate Rope and Hydraulic shovel equipment such as the CAT 7495, CAT 6060 or Komatsu 4100 XPC in accordance to company procedures and standards
  • Performing daily pre and post operation inspections with the appropriate documentation in compliance with guidelines
  • Hazard identification and communication to supervision
  • Be able to work with different materials types from hard rock to overburden materials
  • Follow and comply with all company health and safety policies and procedures including those outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Follow defined practices to assure quality, safety and housekeeping standards
  • Promote a positive health, safety and environment culture and the internal Responsibility System.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or proof of completed equivalency and/or a combination of education/training and experience
  • Minimum of five years’ work experience in the operation and maintenance of Rope Shovel equipment (Komatsu 4100 XPC) in an open pit mining operation
  • Must be mechanically inclined and able to identify potential equipment issues
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety in the workplace
  • Experience working at a remote work site is an asset.
