Job summary

Highland Valley Copper is seeking a Mine Technician to perform field data collection and digital updates within the Autonomous Operating Zone. You will report to the Senior Supervisor in Mine Operations and work on site near Logan Lake, BC.

The role involves supporting the Autonomous Haulage System, updating virtual environments, and assisting Mine Engineering in a fast-paced, safety-focused setting. Competitive hourly wage provided.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Mine Technician Diploma or a related degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience, ideally in open-pit mining.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, database).
  • Knowledge of Vulcan and MineStar or autonomous haulage tech is an asset.
  • Experience using GPS, GIS and CAD systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine field updates and data collection for the AOZ and digital mine surface.
  • Validate virtual environment updates with the AOZ; ensure data quality.
  • Support with Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) updates and system optimization.
  • Assist with AMT stoppages, dump progression updates and field observations.
  • Pilot non-compliant vehicles within the AOZ under supervision.
  • Provide assistance to Mine Engineering as needed.

About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada's largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Senior Supervisor in Mine Operations the Mine Technician position will be primarily responsible for field updates within the Autonomous Operating Zone (AOZ).

Key Responsibilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures;
  • Perform routine and planned jobs including data collection, digital mine surface updates (i.e. dumps, loading areas, infrastructure, roads, etc), validations of virtual environment updates with the Autonomous Operating Zone (AOZ);
  • Support Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) Builder Supervisor responsibilities with virtual environment updates as assigned (i.e. static and dynamic lane creation, system optimization, etc);
  • Support with autonomous mining truck (AMT) stoppages, dump progression updates as well as field observations and truck performance;
  • Pilot non-compliant vehicles throughout the AOZ;
  • Provide assistance to Mine Engineering.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Mine Technician Diploma program or a Degree Program with relevant fields from a recognized post-secondary institution;
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience, preferably in open pit mining;
  • Strong computer skills particularly with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Database, Windows);
  • Knowledge of Vulcan and MineStar and / or experience with autonomous haulage technology would be an asset;
  • Experience using GPS, GIS and CAD systems;
  • Strong verbal and written skills;
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to multi-task and excel in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

Hourly Wage: $45.33

Working Conditions
  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
