Job summary

Hemlo Mining Corp. near Marathon, Ontario is looking for an underground drilling and blasting specialist to conduct QA/QC activities, borehole surveys, and field verifications. You will monitor blasting and support continuous improvement with Engineering and Operations teams.

Responsibilities include safety compliance, data analysis, and evaluating new blasting technologies, with opportunities for relocation assistance and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Mining Engineering, Mine Technology, Surveying, or a related field.
• Underground mining experience is required.
• Underground drilling and blasting experience is a strong asset.
• Operational underground mining experience is an asset.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Blasting certification or willingness to obtain certification is an asset.
• Physically capable for underground fieldwork and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-drilling, drilling and loading QA/QC activities.
• Complete borehole surveys and field verification.
• Monitor underground drilling and blasting with real-time feedback.
• Analyze fragmentation and identify blasting improvements.
• Perform vibration monitoring and analyze data.
• Assist with explosive quality control and density testing.
• Track drilling/blasting performance and maintain QA/QC databases.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Operations on improvements.
• Test and implement new blasting products and procedures.
• Conduct underground inspections and ensure safety compliance.
• Support special projects and operational initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.

Your new role

• Conduct pre-drilling, drilling, and loading QA/QC activities to ensure compliance with mine plans and standards.
• Complete borehole surveys, hole pickups, and field verification activities.
• Monitor underground drilling and blasting activities and provide real-time feedback to operations and contractor crews.
• Conduct fragmentation analysis and assist with identifying opportunities to improve blasting performance and reduce oversize.
• Perform vibration monitoring and analyze blasting performance data.
• Assist with explosive quality control activities including density testing and loading verification.
• Track drilling and blasting performance metrics and maintain QA/QC databases and reporting systems.
• Work collaboratively with Engineering and Operations teams to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with testing and implementation of new blasting products, technologies, and procedures.
• Conduct underground inspections and field reviews to support safe and efficient operations.
• Support compliance with company safety standards, procedures, and applicable legislation.
• Assist with special projects and operational improvement initiatives as required.
• Other duties as assigned and required.

What you'll need to succeed

• Post-secondary education in Mining Engineering, Mine Technology, Surveying, or a related field.
• Previous underground mining experience required.
• Experience with underground drilling and blasting activities considered a strong asset.
• Operational underground mining experience considered an asset.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with Deswik, AutoCAD, or other mine planning and CAD-based software considered an asset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to work independently underground with minimal supervision.
• Motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.
• Physically capable of performing underground fieldwork, including walking steep grades and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Valid Class G driver's license required.
• Blasting certification or willingness to obtain certification considered an asset.

What you'll get in return

• Base salary range from $75,000 to $115,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
