Job summary

Hecla Mining Company’s Keno Hill operation in the Yukon is seeking a Mine Rescue and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. This role reports to the Health and Safety Supervisor and sits on the Health and Safety team responsible for continual improvement of Emergency Response and Preparedness.

You will lead the Mine Rescue Team, develop procedures, deliver training, run drills, and ensure regulatory compliance across underground, mill, surface and camp operations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of underground mine experience required.
• 2+ years as a mine rescue instructor.
• 5+ years as a mine rescue team member.
• Certification to instruct Standard First Aid and CPR C and First Responder.
• Emergency response experience in an industrial setting.
• Knowledge of health and safety management systems and OHS legislation.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse groups.
• Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Provide strong safety leadership and champion the emergency response program.
• Manage training, equipment, and records for the Mine Rescue Team.
• Instruct Mine Rescue Basic Training, Coordinator Training, and Incident Management Team Training.
• Act as Mine Rescue Coordinator during emergencies and mentor others.
• Develop and manage emergency procedures for underground, mill, surface and camp risks.
• Develop training modules and train site personnel and contractors.
• Lead drills and compile reports to identify improvement opportunities.
• Participate in risk assessments to identify needed procedures, equipment and training.
• Inspect and maintain emergency response equipment and tools.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for emergency response.
