Job summary

Hatch Ltd. is hiring an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer for its Mining Infrastructure team in Sudbury, ON. You will contribute to the design, assessment, development and delivery of surface and underground mining infrastructure across project phases.

The role requires 5–7 years of post-graduate experience, PE registration advantageous, and a BSc/B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering. You will work with diverse teams locally and internationally.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of post-graduate experience in engineering consulting, EPCM, mining or industrial environments.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer with PE Ontario or provincial equivalent would be advantageous
• BSc/B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Mechanical system design experience, preferably within mining or industrial environments.
• Working knowledge of fluid/pipeline software such as FluidFlow, AFT Fathom or Flownex is advantageous

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design basis and criteria.
• Develop technical specifications.
• Develop mechanical and piping designs from concept through execution.
• Prepare technical documentation for enquiry and procurement packages (SOW, MTO).
• Conduct mechanical/piping analysis and design calculations and compile design reports.
• Review mechanical and piping drawings and coordinate intra- and inter-discipline inputs.
• Participate in client meetings and risk reviews (HAZiD, HAZOP).

We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our Mining Infrastructure Engineering team. This role entails working with diverse teams, both locally, and abroad.

The successful candidate will contribute to design, assessment, development, and delivery of surface and underground mining-related infrastructure across all project phases, including Concept Studies, Pre-Feasibility Studies (PFS), Feasibility Studies (FS), Execution (Detail Design), Construction Support and Commissioning.

Working within multidisciplinary teams, the engineer will support the design and delivery of mechanical systems associated with shafts, underground mining infrastructure, materials handling systems, process plants, pumping systems, ventilation systems, refrigeration facilities, workshops, and associated mine infrastructure

Ideal Candidate Profile

A mechanical engineer who combines strong technical design capability with 5 to 7 years of post-graduate practical project experience within an engineering consulting, EPCM, mining house, contractor, or industrial environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, and the ambition to grow into a lead mechanical engineering role through participation in complex surface and underground mining projects across North America and internationally.

Prerequisites

• 5-7 years’ experience within an engineering consulting, EPCM, mining house, contractor, or industrial environment. Exposure to mining projects is advantageous.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (P,Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario or provincial equivalent would be advantageous
• BSc/B. Eng degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Mechanical system design experience, preferably within a mining or industrial environment.
• Working knowledge of fluid simulation software such as FluidFlow, AFT Fathom or Flownex is advantageous

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Developing mechanical design basis and criteria
• Developing technical specifications
• Developing mechanical and piping designs from Concept Phase through to Execution
• Developing technical discipline documentation for enquiry and contract placement purposes related to contract or procurement packages – Scope of Work documents and Material Take-Off’s (MTO’s)
• Undertaking mechanical and piping analysis and design calculations, inclusive of compilation of design reports
• Understanding relevant local and international mechanical and piping codes such as ASME B31.3
• Guiding mechanical/piping designers with input and development of 3D models, and participation in 3D model reviews
• Thoroughly reviewing mechanical and piping drawings
• Undertaking intra-discipline and inter-discipline reviews and co-ordination
• Participating in client meetings
• Participating in Risk reviews (HAZiD, HAZOP, Constructability Reviews and Risk Assessments)

Base salary range: $89,000 - $135,000
