New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About The Role

Schedule: 5x2, Monday to Friday or 4X3, flexibility in schedule available

Position Reports To: Senior Mine Engineer / Lead Engineer

Position Overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity for one Engineering student to join our Technical Services department for an 8, 12 or 16-month work term commencing September 2025, assisting the Mine Planning and Ventilation teams. This is an opportunity for a full-time engineering student who has a safety-oriented mindset to gain experience in an operating, block cave mine.

Block Caving

New Afton Mine is currently the only operating block cave mine in Canada. Block Caving is an underground mass mining method that allows the extraction of larger and lower grade deposits than traditional underground mining methods. As many of the worlds large surface mines continue to exhaust their viable open pit reserves and new surface deposits continue to decrease, block caving will provide an economical method for continuing to mine these large deposits underground.

Block Caving presents some of the most complex technical challenges in mining. See

Technology & Innovation

In keeping with New Gold’s values, New Afton Mine recently partnered with Sandvik to bring automated scoops underground. See Sandvik’s
