About the Job :

Operating in a Northern British Columbia mining environment on a two week in / two week out shift rotation, the Mine Engineer in Training (EIT) is an integral part of the surface and underground operations at Silvertip Mine. Solid work ethics, regular attendance, and punctuality are essential requirements for this position

Responsibilities :

  • Provide technical support for Mine Operations and Site Services as required, with a primary focus on

1) underground development that will support the exploration program, and

  • 2) TRSF construction on surface.
  • Provide surface and UG survey support (pickups, markups, survey control stations, as-built drawings).
  • Participate in organizing geotechnical drilling programs in conjunction with contractors and perform geotechnical logging.
  • UG data collection including ventilation flows, gas concentrations, Q’ analysis and other operational information.
  • Assist with mine plans, schedules, and water management plans as development progresses.
  • Track all material (Ore, Waste PAG and NAG) movement underground and on surface by completing regular stockpile surveys and issue reports on the progress of construction of the TRSF.
  • Assure compliance with ML / ARD management plan (Metal Leaching / Acid Rock Drainage).
  • Assure compliance with Operation, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) Manuals for the TRSF and water management structures (WMS).
  • Monitor the TRSF and WMS, including their ponds, access roads, contact and non-contact ditches.
  • Conduct ground control inspections and report conditions.
  • Perform pull tests on ground support equipment, including rock bolts (rebar, Omega and cable) and take readings for ground monitoring instrumentation such as ground movement monitors and piezometers.
  • Conduct ground control inspections, compile and issue ground control instructions under the guidance of the Supervisor.
  • Update prints for vent surveys, month-end reports, schedules, work instructions and as-builts using Deswik.
  • Become knowledgeable with mine operations and equipment and assist with mine development when the opportunity arises. This may include working underground and operating underground equipment, once approved and signed off.
  • Perform pre-operational checks, operate equipment and perform all job functions according to Safe Operating Procedures.
  • Provide technical support for Site Services, Environment, and underground operations.
  • Accomplish other tasks within the Mine Engineer’s area of expertise as requested.

Required Qualifications & Skills :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mine Engineering, ability to register as EIT in B.C.
  • Previous experience at a mine site, preferably underground is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Deswik, Word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Experience with Vulcan or AutoCAD are an asset but not required.
  • Experience operating a Drone is an asset
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physically fit to perform the duties of the position.

Additional Information :

  • Willing to work a two-week rotation schedule, with 12-hour shifts per day at a remote camp.
  • Our current designated marshalling locations are Vancouver, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Calgary, Edmonton, Whitehorse, Teslin, and Watson Lake.
