East Coast Mining Ltd. seeks an experienced Mine Blaster to safely execute production blasts in a large open-pit environment near St. Lawrence, NL. You will lead blasting activities and coordinate a crew to meet production targets while upholding strict safety standards.

Qualifications

• Valid Newfoundland and Labrador Blaster’s Certificate or eligibility.
• Previous blasting experience in surface/open-pit mining or quarry operations.
• Knowledge of blast-hole loading, tie-ins and initiation systems.
• Ability to read and execute blast plans and loading instructions.
• Experience handling explosives and blasting materials in production environments.
• Commitment to safe work practices and blasting procedures.
• Production-focused with ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Valid driver’s licence and acceptable driver’s abstract.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and uneven terrain.
• Willing to work 12-hour rotating day and night shifts.
• Willing to overtime and additional shifts.
• Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing clearance.

• Direct and coordinate blast crew activities to ensure blasts are completed safely and efficiently.
• Load blast holes and complete tie-ins and initiation systems in accordance with approved blast plans.
• Execute blast patterns to achieve required fragmentation and support efficient excavation and material movement.
• Read and follow blast plans, loading instructions and established blasting procedures.
• Monitor and document blast results and production outcomes.
• Maintain explosives magazines, inventories and blasting materials in accordance with site requirements.
• Complete pre- and post-blast inspections and required documentation.
• Identify blasting hazards and maintain safe work areas throughout blasting activities.
• Work safely and independently while coordinating with drilling and mine operations personnel.

• Capable of lifting to 50 lbs. and work safely on uneven terrain
• Available to work 12-hour rotating day and night shifts in varying weather conditions
• Ability to work scheduled rotations, overtime and additional shifts as required
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing

Work Conditions

• 14 days on / 14 days off rotation
• 12-hour rotating day and night shifts
• Overtime and shift premiums in accordance with the Collective Agreement
