Job summary

A community wellness organization in Kelowna is seeking a Mindfulness Program Facilitator to deliver mental wellness curricula, including Y Mind and Teen Mindfulness. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related field, experience leading group mindfulness practices, and a strong commitment to community values. This hourly position offers a starting salary of $26-27 per hour.

Job description

For over 40 years, the YMCA of Southern Interior BC has been providing free and low-cost wellness services to children, youth, and equity-seeking groups, offering responsive community programs and supports to help individuals reach their full potential. Since 2018, the YMCA has delivered evidence-based, high-quality mindfulness programming to youth and young adults facing barriers to positive mental wellbeing, known as Y Mind. The goal of Y Mind is to enhance quality of life through therapeutic group-based learning, helping youth acquire strategies for independence, purpose, and positive mental health outcomes.

Reporting to the Manager of Community & Wellness Services, the Mindfulness Program Facilitator will collaborate with staff, volunteers, and participants in delivering mental wellness curricula, including Y Mind and Teen Mindfulness. Responsibilities include screening new participants at information sessions and delivering the 7-week curriculum within Kelowna and surrounding communities. The facilitator will foster a safe, inclusive environment and identify areas for growth in future programs.

Hourly Position: $26-27/hr

  • Attend pre-program training and post-program debriefs
  • Support participants in accessing community referrals
  • Maintain an atmosphere of achievement and inspiration
  • Ensure safety in accordance with YMCA standards and policies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, or related field required
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience is an asset
  • Familiarity with Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an asset
  • Experience leading group mindfulness practices is an asset
  • Mental Health First Aid certification is an asset
  • Experience facilitating group activities with youth and young adults is an asset
  • Experience working with diverse, equity-deserving populations is an asset
  • Strong judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • High independence and initiative within team settings
  • Vehicle required
