What you can expect from this position:
Under the direction of the Manager, T3 Baggage or Manager, Aircraft Support Systems or Manager, BHS-PBB Maintenance Response, this position is responsible for carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance, emergency repairs and modifications to airport mechanical equipment, such as but not limited to: passenger boarding bridges, base building mechanical systems, baggage conveyor systems, Storm Water Facilities, Fuel Diversion system, sewage lift equipment, overhead vehicle doors, fire/life safety suppression and compressed air systems, Pre-conditioned Air Systems, potable water systems, motorized security gates and arms, blast fences, mobile stairs and mobile bridge adaptors.
As a Millwright, you will:
- Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance, emergency repairs and modifications to airport mechanical equipment such as, but not limited to, passenger boarding bridges, pumps, baggage conveyor systems, storm water facilities, overhead vehicle doors, overhead signs, sewage, lift systems fire suppression systems and compressed air systems
- Fabricate, from blueprints and drawings, improvements or modifications to airport mechanical equipment such as baggage systems and passenger boarding bridges
- Install overhead signs and install/remove deep well circulation pumps, which requires rigging skills
- Troubleshoot hydraulic systems and overhauls hydraulic pumps, valves, conveyor systems, and other mechanical systems
- Perform oxy/Acetylene, arc welding, brazing and cutting on such metals as stainless steel, aluminum and cast iron
- Submit written and oral reports such as preventative maintenance inspections
- Supervise and monitor on-site contractor work on mechanical systems, ensuring contract compliance and reporting on work quality
This unionized position has an hourly wage rate of $50.01 based on a 40-hour work week. The successful candidate must be available to commence the duties of the positions once a selection decision has been made. A practical and written test will be administered as part of the competitive process.
Candidates with relevant external experience must provide references with their applications in order to confirm this experience.
This is the role for you, if you have:
- Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a licensed Millwright in construction or industrial maintenance-related experience (aviation, transportation, etc.)
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s license
- Ability to obtain a “D/A” level Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit within 6 months of appointment to the position
- Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance
Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success:
- Knowledge of millwright industry standards and requirements
- Ability to fabricate from blueprints, layouts and drawings, improvements or modifications to airport mechanical equipment with the use of the lathe, milling machine, drill press, hydraulic press, grinding equipment, band saw, cut off saw, Stick/MIG/TIG welding, oxygen/acetylene - brazing and cutting, plasma cutting on various metals including stainless steel, aluminum and cast iron and various power tools
- Knowledge of emergency procedures, proper response to hazardous spills and contamination, health and safety practices, and all other job-related codes, standards, procedures and requirements
- Ability to use computerized maintenance software for troubleshooting and repairs of airline support and baggage systems
- Ability to prioritize work when receiving multiple calls at the same time; working in high vehicular traffic areas and passenger traffic areas safely
