Overview

Position: Millwright

Primary Location: North Vancouver, British Columbia

Shift: 4-day work week, 7am – 5pm; excellent working environment

Reports To: Plant Manager

Compensation: $66.53/hr + benefits

The CAD hourly rate for this position is $66.53 + benefits. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location. The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Please note that the compensation details listed in the Canadian roles postings reflect the hourly rate only, and do not include benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives such as overtime and shift premiums.

About This Position and About You

Reporting to the supervisors, the millwright will support various activities including but not limited to: preventative, predictive corrective maintenance, as per work orders and/or supervisor’s instructions, in a safe and efficient manner. You will be part of a team of Electricians, Instrumentation Mechanics, Millwrights, and control specialists; we have a great team and are excited for you to join us. This is a unionized position based on 4 days a week, 10 hours per day (7 am – 5 pm). Occasional overtime on evenings and weekends may be required.

In This Role, You Will

  • Inspect, test, install, decommission, troubleshoot, repair, and replace various equipment, including liquefiers (industrial refrigeration units) and related peripherals.
  • Collaborate with other trades and/or work with primary ticket as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, safety and environmental standards, good housekeeping, and Responsible Care practices.
  • Participate in risk assessments, Root Cause Failure Analysis, and maintenance optimization or improvement initiatives.
  • Be available for overtime and weekend work as required.
  • Maintain familiarity with and comply with all Chemtrade corporate and site Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures.
  • Engage in job safety analysis activities, housekeeping tours, safety programs, and initiatives such as Behavior-Based Observations and company surveys.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the supervisor.
  • Fulfill all apprenticeship program requirements, including attending and successfully completing the academic portion of the program.

Environmental, Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with Chemtrade Environmental, Safety & Health (EH&S) policies and procedures.
  • Immediately report all EH&S incidents (injuries, near misses, releases).
  • Complete all required EH&S training in a timely fashion.
  • Follow all Chemtrade facility and corporate EH&S procedures and practices.
  • Attend and actively participate in facility EH&S meetings and forums that will drive employee involvement.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for EH&S program improvement.
  • Participate in job safety analysis activities.

A Successful Candidate Has:

Knowledge

  • Must possess Inter-provincial journeyperson ticket in millwrighting.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a journeyman maintenance role in a hands-on, industrial environment and showing methodical and logical approach to troubleshooting.

Competencies

  • Must have a strong mechanical aptitude with ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellence in safety and care for environment within workplace.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must have excellent work ethic with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Must pass company medical and background checks.
  • Preferences may be given to candidates, who have multiple tickets besides millwrighting, such as refrigeration, pipefitting, machining, etc.

  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Employee is occasionally required to climb stairs/ladders (including vertical).
  • Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10-40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
  • Must be “fit for duty”.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs without assistance.

Must be able to perform under the following conditions

  • Work in awkward or confining workspaces.
  • Work in elevated places.
  • Work in outdoor environment.
  • Work in noisy environment.
  • Work in areas that are dusty and have some odor from chemicals and etc.
  • Safety is a job requirement.
  • Able to work in Adverse Weather Conditions.
