Job description

Profile Summary: The Millwright Apprentice is a key role in the Engineering Department working under the supervision of a registered Millwright. The apprentice millwright learns with on-job experience and periodic college training to install, maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.

Key Responsibilities
• Learn to read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
• Assist in the installation, alignment, dismantling and movement of stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces and generators according to layout plans using hand and power tools
• Operate, after training, hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and tractors to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery
• Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery
• Learn to assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment.
• Assist to disassemble and reassemble equipment for reparation or
• Gain knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, belt systems, motors, and other industrial machine mechanisms essential for job procedures.

• Industry Standards and Regulations – Learn all relevant industry standards, recommended practices and regulations. Monitor self-compliance with company, industry, environment and government requirements as well as promote their acceptance in all aspects of company business.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
• 2nd to 4th year Millwright apprentice
• Comfortable working with hand and power tools
• Mechanical and electrical aptitude with an ability to interpret drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• Knowledge of basic millwright equipment, tools, and procedures.
• Attention to detail with a good understanding of mathematics.
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving ability.
• Continuous improvement and learning mindset.
• Experience with Microsoft Office tools.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Commitment to safe work practices & knowledge of Alberta OHS regulations to ensure a safe workspace.

Preferred Skills:
• Some knowledge of plumbing, electrical, welding, and hydraulic systems.
• Previous field experience is an asset.
• Valid passport and ability to travel domestically & internationally.
• Safety tickets are an asset (i.e. CSTS, First Aid, H2S Alive, Forklift, Fall Arrest and Aerial Platform)
