Job summary

Sofina Foods in Abbotsford, BC is seeking a dedicated Millwright Mechanic Apprentice to join our maintenance team on a night shift. You will maintain equipment, perform PMs and repairs on conveyors, pumps, grinders, and packaging lines, while following GMP safety rules.

Fluency in English is required. Own tools and ability to lift up to 40 lb are essential. This full-time role offers vacation, tuition reimbursement, and other benefits.

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in the written and oral English language.
• Must have at least one year of, recent, in-class training completed of the apprenticeship program, within the last 3 years.
• Minimum one-year full-time experience, working as a Millwright Mechanic apprentice.
• Previous exposure to the maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment, motors, drives, electronics, instrumentation, pumps and conveyor systems.
• Must be able to operate at height with PPE and lift up to 40 lb regularly.

Responsibilities

• Perform PMs, PDMs, CM and regular work orders on equipment.
• Maintain all mechanical equipment in the plant.
• Repair and troubleshoot conveyors, pumps, grinders, packaging equipment and related systems.
• Work in a team environment and follow GMP rules for maintenance and safety.
• Carry out work requests and apply corrective actions.

Main Duties:

• Must be fluent in the written and oral English language.
• Must comply with all safety regulations, to provide a safe working environment for themselves and the workers in the plant.
• Maintain all mechanical equipment in the plant.
• Performs PMs, PDMs, CM and regular work orders on equipment.
• Must have their own tools.
• Must be able to multitask and prioritize their workload.
• Can repair and work on; conveyors, industrial equipment, pumps, grinders, welding equipment, lathes, power tools, fans, blowers, hydraulic systems, packaging equipment and pneumatic equipment.
• Exposed to TIG welding.
• Capable of repairs and troubleshooting
• Must be able to work in a team type environment.
• Full knowledge of hand and power tools
• Knowledge of installation of equipment
• Follows GMP rules and GMP for Maintenance rules.
• Carry out oral or printed work requests and apply corrective actions.
• Account for Inventory and labour on a computerized maintenance program.
• Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

• Registered Millwright Mechanic Apprentice
• Has at least one year of, recent, in-class training completed of the apprenticeship program, within the last 3 years.
• Minimum one-year full-time experience, working as a Millwright Mechanic apprentice.
• Previous exposure to the maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment, motors, drives, electronics, instrumentation, pumps and conveyor systems.
• Must be able to work at height with the proper PPE, can lift and move objects with up to 40lb regularly and work in confined spaces with the appropriate training
• Must be able to operate mobile equipment with the appropriate training and must hold a valid class 5 driving license.

Work Conditions:

• Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb unusual heights on ladders, to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate/repair assigned equipment; and to verbally communicate to exchange information

• Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.

• Exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions.

• This position requires normal visual/sensory effort.

• There will be regular deadline pressure from various sources while, at the same time, there will be a demand for thoroughness in work.
