Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods in Winnipeg, MB is seeking a skilled Millwright to maintain and service processing equipment for daily production. This role ensures a safe plant environment and supports a fast-paced facility with 12-hour continental shifts.

Qualifications

  • Must have valid Millwright's license (Red Seal).
  • Preferable 3–5 years’ experience.
  • Own hand tools required.
  • Knowledge of plant and equipment operations.
  • Ability to organize and plan daily tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Strong math, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Availability for weekend overtime as production demands require.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot/repair/install processing equipment with electrical knowledge for efficient results.
  • Carry out oral/printed work requests and apply corrective action.
  • Perform regular Work Orders and track inventory and labour on a computerized maintenance program.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings/schematics; machining and fabrication for repairs/upgrades.
  • Welding of equipment or parts as needed; adhere to all Food/Health and Safety policies.
  • Some lifting up to 50 lbs is required.

Job description

The Opportunity

The individual will be responsible for maintaining and servicing equipment used in the facility for the daily production of our products. Furthermore, they will ensure safe plant operations and a safe working environment for all employees.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life
  • Trouble shooting/repairs/installations of processing equipment with a working knowledge of electrical to allow efficient repair/replacement results,
  • Carry out oral/printed work requests and apply corrective action,
  • Perform regular Work Orders and account for inventory and labour on a computerized maintenance program,
  • Extensive mechanical knowledge including power transmission, pneumatics and hydraulics,
  • Be able to read and understand mechanical drawings/schematics,
  • Machining and fabricating for equipment repairs and/or upgrades,
  • Welding of equipment or part repair,
  • Understand and adhere to all plant Food/Health and Safety Polices.
  • Some lifting will be required up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions
  • 12 hour continental shifts in a fast-paced, cold and wet environment; strong smells like cleaning and caustic solutions, blood products and raw meat.
  • Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle and feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, ability to use senses to diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
  • Some lifting will be required up to 50 lbs.
