Job summary

MAXX NORTH AMERICA SERVICES LTD is seeking a field-based industrial mechanical technician to install, maintain, and repair equipment across multiple job sites. You will assemble, align, and commission machinery, read technical drawings, and troubleshoot to keep production running safely.

This role requires working at various locations with rotating shifts and exposure to diverse weather conditions. A valid driver’s license and physical stamina are essential for this hands-on position.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Physical ability for frequent bending, lifting, carrying, climbing, and manual handling of materials and equipment.
  • Comfort working at multiple job sites with rotating shifts and variable weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, dismantle, move, troubleshoot, repair and maintain industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, manuals, and drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Inspect machinery for defects and inconsistencies; perform preventive maintenance and document activities.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Disassemble equipment for repair, overhaul, or storage and reassemble for installation.
  • Operate hoisting and lifting equipment safely to position machinery and components.
  • Align machinery using precision measuring tools and verify tolerances.
  • Prepare foundations and supports for machinery and equipment; install and commission equipment per specifications.

Department Scope

The position supports a variety of industrial mechanical construction, installation, maintenance, and repair activities, including:

  • Industrial machinery installation and maintenance
  • Mechanical equipment assembly and disassembly
  • Equipment alignment and commissioning
  • Preventative and corrective maintenance
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repairs
  • Equipment relocation and installation
  • Industrial construction and facility maintenance
  • Machinery fabrication and modification
  • Equipment overhauls and rebuilds
  • General mechanical maintenance
Work Conditions & Requirements
  • Ability to use a tablet and/or laptop as required for job duties and documentation.
  • Valid driver's licence and a safe driving record are required.
  • Work will be performed at various job sites and locations, with rotating shifts as required by the project.
  • Must be comfortable working in a variety of weather and climate conditions.
  • This is a physically demanding position requiring frequent bending, lifting, carrying, climbing, and manual handling of materials and equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate and work around heavy equipment, machinery, hoisting equipment, and power tools.
  • Living-out allowance (LOA) may be provided depending on the job location and project requirements.
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all site-specific safety, training, PPE, and access requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
Mechanical Installation & Maintenance
  • Assemble, install, dismantle, move, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical drawings to determine appropriate work procedures.
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to identify defects, irregularities, and potential mechanical issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and accurately document completed maintenance activities.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and perform the necessary repairs to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
  • Disassemble machinery and equipment for repair, overhaul, transportation, or storage.
  • Assemble and prepare machinery and equipment for installation using power tools, welding equipment, and other specialized tools.
  • Clean, lubricate, adjust, and maintain machinery and mechanical components.
  • Adjust and modify machinery to accommodate new products, patterns, processes, or production requirements.
  • Perform diagnostic testing on machinery and equipment to verify proper and safe operation.
  • Operate hoisting and lifting equipment, including cranes, jacks, tractors, and other lifting devices, to safely position machinery and components.
  • Align machinery and equipment using precision measuring and specialized alignment tools, including micrometres, levels, and plumb bobs.
  • Identify and verify differences in component dimensions, shapes, and tolerances.
  • Construct and prepare foundations and supports for machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Install and commission mechanical equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications, drawings, and project requirements.
  • Visit and assess job sites to identify potential mechanical issues and determine appropriate installation, repair, or maintenance requirements.
Fabrication & Mechanical Repair
  • Repair and fabricate defective or replacement machine components using welding, brazing, and other fabrication techniques.
  • Operate machine tools, including lathes, grinders, and other equipment, to fabricate or modify parts required for machinery maintenance, repair, overhaul, or installation.
  • Use hydraulic bolters, welders, power tools, and other specialized equipment safely and effectively.
  • Apply mechanical repair principles, procedures, and best practices to ensure machinery and equipment function properly.
  • Review and follow complex technical manuals and manufacturer specifications when completing repairs, maintenance, and installations.
