Job summary

Halton Region seeks an Industrial Maintenance Millwright to ensure safe, reliable maintenance of mechanical equipment, controls and power systems across water and wastewater facilities. Qualifications

• Valid Certificate of Apprenticeship and Certificate of Qualification (433A) as an Industrial Mechanic Millwright.
• 3-5 years of experience as a qualified Millwright, preferably in water or wastewater treatment facilities.
• Advanced mechanical knowledge of industrial systems including pumps, motors, valves, gearboxes, and mechanical control systems.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with precision tools and predictive maintenance techniques.
• Proficiency in SAP PM and MM, SCADA systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills with ability to interpret technical drawings and reports.
• Safety-focused with WHMIS, confined space, working at heights responsibilities understood.
• Experience with fabrication and machining tools such as welders, lathes, and presses.
• Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry standards.
• Preferred licenses: MLT level 1/2, G1/G2 gas, vibration certs, MMP Work Management.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize safety by identifying hazards and following Regional safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct hazard assessments and ensure safety protocols before work begins.
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, compressors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Ensure compliance with OHSA, CSA standards, and water/wastewater regulations.
• Contribute to maintenance planning by estimating labour, tools, materials, duration and hazards, coordinating with Operations.
• Provide technical feedback on work orders using SAP, MS Office and asset management systems.
• Assist with material procurement and support reliability improvement through RCAs and preventive maintenance enhancements.
• Interpret technical docs like ECAs, manuals, blueprints, and regional specs to guide activities.
• Document changes to equipment design and performance with stakeholders, updating asset systems.
• Collaborate with contractors, OEMs, and vendors for issue resolution and commissioning.
• Support capital projects through reviews, commissioning and maintenance readiness planning.
• Participate in IMT training to expand competencies, including gas systems and digester equipment.
• Develop and update preventive maintenance procedures and validate equipment data.
• Respond to emergencies and high-priority failures to restore operations safely.
• Perform other duties including shop organization and tool maintenance.
• Assist with special projects and optimization initiatives.

Job Summary

The Industrial Maintenance Millwright ensures the safe, reliable, and effective maintenance of mechanical equipment, controls, and power systems across water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role involves performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques, while strictly adhering to health, safety, and environmental regulations. Participate and lead tactical work improvements and problem prevention efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prioritize safety in all aspects of work by identifying, assessing, and controlling hazards to maintain a safe work environment. Follow all Regional safety policies, procedures, and legislative requirements including but not limited to confined space entry, lockout/tagout, work at heights and PPE use.
• Conduct pre-job and workplace hazard assessments, ensuring all safety protocols are in place before commencing work, including work preparation and equipment specific hazards encountered before and during work.
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment including pumps, motors, valves, compressors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, CSA standards, and water, wastewater plant regulations.
• Contribute to maintenance planning and scheduling by providing input on work scopes, required labour, tools, materials and equipment, estimated job duration, hazards and required controls, and coordinating work activities with Operations and other maintenance disciplines.
• Provide complete and accurate technical feedback on completed work orders using SAP, Microsoft Office applications and other applicable software systems, including equipment condition, failure codes, labour hours, materials used, identified failure causes, corrective actions completed, recommendations for follow-up maintenance, and assist with material procurement as required.
• Support reliability improvement initiatives by participating in equipment failure investigations, root cause analysis and identification of recurring equipment issues, and provide recommendations for corrective actions and improvements to preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
• Reference and interpret technical documentation such as Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA), manufacturer manuals, blueprints, and regional design specifications to guide maintenance and repair activities.

• Communicate and document changes to equipment design, installation, or performance, ensuring updates are shared with relevant stakeholders and captured in asset management systems.
• Collaborate with contractors, OEMs, and vendors to resolve equipment issues, support commissioning, and ensure installations meet safety and performance expectations.
• Support capital projects by participating in design reviews, commissioning, warranty acceptance, and maintenance readiness planning.
• Participate in training and upskilling programs, such as the Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT) designation, to expand competencies including work on gas systems and digester equipment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by developing and updating preventative maintenance procedures, validating equipment data, and recommending enhancements to equipment and processes.
• Respond to emergencies and high-priority equipment failures, applying troubleshooting expertise to restore operations efficiently and safely.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including shop organization, tool maintenance, and support for special projects and optimization initiatives.

Skills & Qualifications

• Proficiency in SAP PM and MM, SCADA systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to interpret technical drawings, write detailed reports, workorder technical feedback and collaborate across teams.
• Thorough understanding of safety legislation, including WHMIS, confined space entry, working at heights, and hazardous materials handling.
• Experience with fabrication and machining tools, including welders, lathes, milling machines, and hydraulic presses.
• Commitment to continuous learning, including participation in training programs and staying current with industry standards and technologies.
• Preferred licenses and certificates : Maintenance Lubrication Technician (MLT) level 1 or 2 , Gas license G1 or G2 , Vibration certification level 1 or 2, Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) Work Management Certificate

Working Conditions

• Flexibility to work outside of core business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays is required.
• The successful incumbent will be required to serve on standby and respond to after hour callouts, as specified by Public Works Operations Practices.
• The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position, in all weather and elevations, including lifting, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders, working from scaffolding and heights.

• The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
