Job description

Established commercial/residential millwork operation serving the local BC market is looking for an experienced Millwork Designer to join our team. As a skilled technical specialist, you will be responsible for integrating all engineering and designing steps in the cabinet and millwork manufacturing process.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Engineered and created accurate drawings of casework, panels, and other components for commercial/residential millwork using Microvellum and AutoCAD, based on supplied dimensions, drawings, and estimating data.
  • Adhered to project specifications, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Utilized software features efficiently to maximize production and minimize duplication and human error.
  • Generated tool paths for CNC machines, including routers, edgebanders, and automated saws, from drawings.
  • Ensured machine operators correctly accessed and used programs and support materials for efficient production.
  • Managed tooling and material requirements for each job, ensuring proper selection and understanding of special requirements.
  • Generated reports to facilitate data integration with other systems.
  • Supported or conducted programming to optimize material utilization and production efficiency.
  • Collaborated with Estimating, Project Management, and Production staff to prepare bids, resolve technical issues, and improve project margins.

Qualifications include:

  • Experience with Microvellum and AutoCAD in a millwork or woodwork environment.
  • At least 3 years of related experience in a medium to large millwork or cabinet manufacturing setting.
  • Strong understanding of computerized systems.
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings and bid documents accurately.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Effective team player with good communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other office software.
  • Drive for professional development in design and engineering.

Note: This role requires engineering skills as defined in cabinetmaking but is not a designated engineering position.
