Mil-Aero Electronic Atlantic Inc: Accountant

Our client,MilAero Electronics Atlantic Inc., is a contract manufacturer of wire harnesses for customers in the Aerospace and Defence industries and is based inDartmouth, Nova Scotia.

MilAero is growing rapidly. On their behalf, we seek anAccountantto oversee the company’s financial and cost accounting, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and efficient financial management.

Reports to the General Manager & Controller

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Financial Management & Reporting:
• Oversee and manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, balance sheets, profit & loss reports, and cash flow statements in accordance with ASPE/GAAP.
• Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Develop financial policies and internal controls to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency.
• Support year-end external financial review

2. Cost Accounting & Budgeting:
• Monitor and control manufacturing costs, including material, labor, and overhead expenses.
• Implement and maintain cost accounting systems
• Prepare and oversee annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.

3. Taxation & Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with local tax laws, HST, and corporate taxation.
• Prepare and file tax returns, liaising with tax authorities and external auditors.
• Stay updated with changes in financial regulations and implement necessary adjustments.

4. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
• Conduct financial risk assessments and provide recommendations to management.
• Support business growth by providing financial insights and feasibility studies for new projects.
• Develop financial models to improve efficiency and profitability.

5. Strategic Projects:
• Enhance Inventory and Work in Progress (WIP) reporting
• Support ERP evaluation and implementation
• Automation of AR and AP processes, receipts, and payments
• Prototype Division database, processes and reporting set-up

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
• Internal: Members of the leadership team
• External: Suppliers, customers

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting
• If you are working towards your CPA, the General Manager & Controller is a CPA and will act as your mentor/supervisor
• Experience in the manufacturing sector
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting, financial management, and tax regulations.
• Proficiency in ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting tools.
• Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.

Must be eligible to meet requirements for theCanadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP)Canadian CitizenorPermanent Residencyare mandatory.
