Scope of Responsibilities:

The ‘Middle Level Connect Centre’ Teacher will work under the direction of the SSRCE Student Services Team and MLCC Vice Principal. The Middle Level Connect Centre Teacher is responsible for collaboration and programming for all students attending the Centre, including environments such as the ‘home school’, community-based learning, experiential learning, and the Connect Centre. The teacher will work collaboratively with the Student Planning Team.

Qualifications:
  • A Masters Degree in Inclusive Education, Special Education, or Curriculum (UDL)
  • A minimum of 5 years classroom experience (5-9) is an asset
  • Experience supporting students in a Learning Centre and/or Connect Centre for at least 5 years
  • Recent training and experience in evidence-based programming and interventions for students with complex needs including ASD, trauma, ADHD, etc.
  • Certified training in programs such as PANLST, TEACCH, STAR, PEERS, TTAP, Social Thinking, Interoception, PECS, and related courses.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, flexibility, creativity, organization, and interpersonal skills
Task Dimensions:
  • Develop and support individualized programs and strategies based on student needs, working collaboratively within the Program Planning Process.
  • Coordinate and implement programming with the Student Planning Team, providing direct teaching in social-emotional development, functional skills, and academics.
  • Create, implement, and review systems, structures, and routines for learning and transition planning.
  • Foster community connections for experiential and community-based learning.
  • Collaborate with Child & Youth Care Practitioners in implementing and assessing community-based outcomes.
  • Support increased time in students’ home schools as appropriate.
  • Support Universal Design for Learning within an MTSS framework.
  • Contribute to assessment and reporting practices.
  • Implement evidence-based programming and interventions at Tier 3.
  • Model teaching strategies and support staff as needed.
  • Comply with Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of policies, guidelines, and responsibilities related to individuals with special needs.
  • Perform other duties as required.
