Mid / Sr. Transmission Planning and Studies Engineer

Location: Edmonton, Airdrie, Winnipeg, and the Maritimes, Canada. Remote work options available; please specify your preference in the application.

Roles and Responsibilities:

This position involves interfacing with engineers to prepare computer models and conduct power system studies on utility transmission/distribution and industrial/commercial electrical systems. Responsibilities include feasibility, system impact, reactive compensation, relay settings, stability, planning, short circuit, load flow, motor starting, power factor correction, and EMT engineering design studies.

The candidate should have experience in proposal writing, customer interaction, self-management, and the ability to explain complex technical issues to various stakeholders.

Required Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • Minimum of 6 years in bulk transmission planning or related EMT design studies
  • Proficiency in analysis software (PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, or similar)
  • Willingness to travel (10% or more)
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Ability to work in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment
  • Leadership and mentorship skills for junior engineers

Desired Education / Experience:

  • Professional Engineer (PEng or PE) registration
  • Master's or PhD degree preferred
  • Python scripting experience
  • HVDC and FACTS modelling experience
  • IBRs modelling experience
