Job summary

Affinity is seeking a Microsoft BI Developer to migrate Cognos reports to the Microsoft platform and build dashboards using Power BI, SSRS, and SSAS. The role involves designing data models, KPIs, and ensuring data quality.

Collaboration with business users and PHSA teams will drive reporting deliverables. The ideal candidate will have strong SQL, Power BI, DAX, and ETL experience, with knowledge of SSAS cubes and BI tools.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of data design, data modeling, data management, and data visualization.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience with Power BI and DAX.
• Experience with tabular or multi-dimensional cubes (SSAS) and BI tools.
• Proven ability to interact with business and technical teams, and to translate requirements into technical specifications.

On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is seeking a Microsoft BI Developer.

Responsibilities

• Migrate Cognos reports/cubes on Microsoft platform (SSAS/SSRS/Power BI as applicable)
• Work with BCSHS programs users on new/additional reporting requirements and create new cubes/reports/dashboards for BCSHS using Microsoft tools.
• Convert business requirements into technical specifications and decide timeline to accomplish.
• Understand business requirements in BI context and design data models to transform raw data into meaningful insights. Assist in identifying key performance indicators (KPIs) with clear objectives and consistently monitor those
• Advise and implement latest Microsoft platform features as applicable.
• Work with PHSA team on data modelling that includes Data warehouse development with Microsoft SSMS and SSIS.
• Set up BCSHS reporting platform in line with PHSA’s.
• Assist in infrastructure related work (e.g. data migration and cloud migration) to ensure stability and integrity of BCSHS platform which is connected to PHSA platform.
• Backfill the team’s reporting resources as needed to enable them to address BCSHS requirement and design based on their PHSA experience.
• Manage the administration of user access and infrastructure if needed.
• Work with users and team members at all levels for understanding business requirements
• Train technical and Business users in delivered solutions.
• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize Power BI, SSRS, and SSAS solutions, including dashboards, reports, semantic models, security models, and performance optimization.
• Develop and maintain SQL Server databases, complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions to support business intelligence and reporting requirements.
• Implement data validation, reconciliation, and data quality processes to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of reporting solutions.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for BI solutions, data models, ETL processes, reporting assets, and system architecture, and provide production support and troubleshooting as required.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of data design, data modeling, data management, and data visualization
• Advanced SQL skills
• In depth experience of Power BI and DAX
• Practical experience with tabular or multi-dimensional cubes (ex: SSAS, Cognos TM1 etc)
• Practical experience with ETL tools (ex: SSIS, Informatica etc)
• Practical experience with BI reporting tools (Ex: SSRS, Cognos Report Studio, Tableau etc)
• Experience with other BI tools e.g. Cognos, Tableau etc.
• Ability to interact with business as well as technical teams
• Experience with Business analysis, project planning
• Strong communication and client management skills
• Ability to learn and respond quickly to the fast-changing business environment
• Stay updated with advancements and best practices in design and development
• Ability to multitask and excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities
• Document process, models, designs, and solutions and able to explain, represent, and discuss with the team
