Dumont Technical Institute is proud to offer the online SAGE 50 Accounting Software Training Program in March-April 2022. This program is a first for DTI as an online micro-credential course. A micro-credential certifies assessed competencies and is an alternative or complement to formal qualifications. These courses are typically shorter, focused, and non-credit. SAGE 50 is a popular small-business accounting software in northern Saskatchewan. Participants will receive in-depth training to enhance their use of SAGE 50, whether for current jobs or to improve efficiency.
Several months ago, the Primrose Lake Economic Development Corporation (PLEDCO) approached DTI to provide training for northwest Saskatchewan residents in SAGE 50. PLEDCO represents communities including Ile-a-la-Crosse, Beauval, Jans Bay, and Cole Bay. They have been a valued partner and agreed to fund training for local students. DTI decided to collaborate with Saskatchewan Polytechnic to deliver this online micro-credential program.
The response was enthusiastic: over 60 applications were received within two weeks, including more than 40 from PLEDCO communities. Due to high demand, PLEDCO and DTI are considering offering the program again soon.
The 24-hour program will be held over four Saturdays in March-April 2022, taught online outside regular work hours. Participants need a Windows computer and internet access. As long as they reside in a PLEDCO community, the training is free. Twenty students have been selected to start on March 12. The first session will include lessons on Métis culture, history, and language, followed by training on the software.
The SAGE 50 Accounting Software Training Program is already a success, even before it begins. DTI is confident that students will gain valuable skills to support their communities and looks forward to continuing this collaboration with PLEDCO for future training opportunities.
