Job summary

Vancouver Island Health Authority in Campbell River seeks an experienced Ultrasound Supervisor to lead day-to-day diagnostic imaging services and supervise technologists and students. You will ensure adherence to clinical and administrative policies and drive quality and safety improvements.

The role reports to the Leader and requires a recognized Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, ARDMS or Sonography Canada credentials, and supervisory experience in an acute care setting.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
  • ARDMS and/or Sonography Canada certifications for abdominal, obstetrics/gynecology, musculoskeletal, generalist, cardiac, vascular, or breast; leadership courses completed.
  • Three years recent, related experience in an acute health care setting, including two years in supervisory capacity.
  • Eligible for registration with Sonography Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise day-to-day activities for assigned diagnostic medical sonography services.
  • Provide direction to technologists and students; review and update policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and review annual performance appraisals; give ongoing feedback on clinical performance.
  • Maintain currency with new technical and clinical information and procedures; implement policies.

Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Leader, and working in a computerized and digital imaging environment, the Supervisor, Ultrasound coordinates and supervises the day-to-day activities for the assigned diagnostic medical sonography services; provides direction to assigned staff, including technologists and students; reviews, updates, recommends changes, and ensures adherence to clinical and administrative policies and procedures; prepares and reviews annual performance appraisals for assigned staff as required and provides ongoing feedback on clinical performance to staff and students; maintains currency with new technical and clinical information and procedures; and implements established administrative and clinical policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience

Graduation from a recognized Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.

Sonography Canada and/or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certifications, such as abdominal, obstetrics/gynecology, musculoskeletal, generalist, cardiac, vascular, breast; successful completion of recognized management/leadership/ supervisory courses; and three (3) years recent, related experience in an acute health care setting, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Eligible for registration with Sonography Canada.
