Job summary

Vancouver Island Health Authority is seeking a Mental Health and Substance Use Clinician to work in the community, providing advanced clinical practice including intake, assessment, crisis intervention, education, treatment, and harm reduction. This role collaborates with a multidisciplinary team and participates in student supervision, while delivering trauma-informed care.

Qualifications

Masters degree in a health-related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.
Post-basic education related to mental illness, substance use and concurrent disorders.
Two years of recent related experience.
Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and the Guardianship Act.
Knowledge of available programs and their interrelationships in community care.
Valid BC Driver's License.

Responsibilities

Provide intake, assessment, crisis intervention, education, treatment and harm reduction.
Consult with community resources and refer clients and families.
Supervise students and participate in training activities.
Deliver trauma‑informed, culturally safe care for clients with mental health and substance use challenges.
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support client needs.
