An established industry player is seeking a compassionate MHSU Access & Crisis Response Counsellor to join their dedicated team. This role focuses on providing immediate support and assessment for individuals facing mental health and addiction challenges. Under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator or designate, the counsellor works within the organization's framework and standards, focusing on a rehabilitation/recovery harm reduction model. They collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team and with community agencies to provide triage, immediate support, assessment, urgent clinical response, harm reduction, short-term psychotherapeutic/stabilization services, exploration of community resources, and client needs, including liaison and coordination with other services. Participation in planning for services to adults with mental health and addiction issues is required.
Travel may be required, and transportation arrangements must meet VIHA operational requirements, potentially involving the use of a personal vehicle and a valid BC Driver's License.
Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.
Recognized post-basic education related to mental illness and/or alcohol and drug addiction; two (2) years of recent related experience in crisis intervention and risk assessment roles such as policing, crisis counseling, or paramedic work; understanding of mental health and addiction issues; psychiatric and suicide/homicide risk assessments; treatment methodologies; crisis response techniques; knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act, Child Protection legislation, Adult Guardianship Act); or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Valid BC Driver's License.
