Position

Position Purpose Summary

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Mental Health Support Services Supervisor provides guidance, support, and supervision for Mental Health Support Services staff and is responsible for program development and delivery. Responsibilities include supervision of frontline staff, staff training, and administration.

Responsibilities
  • Staff Supervision: Prepare and maintain shift schedules; coordinate and fill work schedules to cover shifts; recruit, interview, and hire staff in conjunction with the Program Manager and HR; delegate and follow up on staff work; provide day-to-day problem solving and support; train staff in all aspects of program participant service; coordinate, prepare, attend, and facilitate staff meetings; ensure staff compliance with policies and procedures; provide clinical supervision to staff.
  • People Management: Directly supervise and support staff; complete Performance Excellence and Coaching (PEAC) for direct reports; participate in corrective action within the Collective Bargaining Agreement; monitor staff attendance; train and develop direct reports for self-improvement; provide formal staff training and assess training needs.
  • Program Management: Provide direction for Mental Health Support Services program development; oversee and guide development of case management plans; monitor and evaluate case plans; oversee daily life skills education; supervise case management via pre- and post-group de-briefings; develop and monitor behavioural modification strategies; provide crisis stabilization and emotional support to clients; review safety plans; direct staff to information regarding medications and medical conditions; ensure clients’ medical needs are met; collaborate on research and development of Mental Health and Addictions-related support programs; train, orient, and review emergency procedures; oversee safe operation of the Mental Health Support Services site; report deficiencies; provide crisis management support and incident handling; oversee documentation of program participant data; participate in committees related to MHSS and ensure minutes are circulated and actions followed up.
  • Administration: Monitor program participant budgets; maintain records (medical files, incident reports, client logs, progress notes, etc.); ensure up-to-date case notes and discharge summaries; manage archival records; prepare correspondence, reports, and funder reports; process staff time sheets; assist in policy development and staff compliance; take on-call duties as required and respond to emergencies and shift changes; comply with policy and procedures.
  • Community Involvement: Engage with relevant agencies for case conferences; support family and community relationships; maintain positive inter-agency relationships; act as primary contact for contracting agencies regarding participant issues and referrals; contribute to written and verbal communication and documentation as needed.
Qualifications

Education and Certifications

  • A degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, or Nursing required
  • Addictions Certification (diploma or certificate) or related experience, or ICADDC is an asset
  • Valid Suicide Intervention Certification
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Valid Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certificate
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Computer literacy

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience with at least three (3) years in a supervisory role in a similar setting
  • Experience working with a diverse population and sensitivity to cultural, religious, sexual orientation, race, age, and various illnesses
  • Experience interviewing and communicating with individuals experiencing effects of substance use

  • Demonstrated supervisory and coaching skills; ability to work in a team; integrity and confidentiality; strong written and verbal communication

Compensation

The target hiring range is $73,000 to $77,000 per year, with a maximum of $83,997.26. Placement within the range will be based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience and qualifications.
