Job summary

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited is seeking a Methods Engineer Technologist to develop and maintain manufacturing documentation for aircraft assembly processes, sub-assemblies and parts. You will propose engineering changes to improve efficiency, quality and compliance while partnering with Suppliers, Production, Quality and Procurement to optimize workflows.

Location: Calgary, Alberta or Victoria, British Columbia; you will support production operations, implement process improvements

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive hands-on experience in a large component manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace.
  • Experience in Manufacturing Engineering, planning or Methods roles.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and assembly of aircraft parts.
  • Working knowledge of cost accounting and cost estimating.
  • Familiar with CATIA/Enovia and ERP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Create and revise product structures, routings and work instructions for aircraft assemblies.
  • Define supply conditions for detail parts and assemblies; update related documents.
  • Create assembly manuals and determine tools for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and assist with non-conformance tasks.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to address technical challenges.

Job Summary

As aMethods Engineer Technologist, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining manufacturing documentation for the assembly processes for our aircraft, sub-assemblies, and parts in alignment with type design specifications. You will play a key role in researching and recommending engineering changes to enhance efficiency, quality, and compliance. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with Suppliers, Production, Quality, Procurement, and other internal teams to address technical challenges and optimize manufacturing workflows. Your expertise will directly support seamless operations and continuous improvement across the production environment.

This position would be located at ourCalgary, Alberta or Victoria, British Columbia offices.

Direct Accountabilities
  • Create and revise Product Structures/Routings and Work Instructions (WI) to define parts, processes, sequence and special instruction required to purchase or build a part/assembly.
  • Define the condition of supply of detail parts and assemblies, create and revise Condition of Supply Documents.
  • Create Assembly Manuals to define assembly requirements and special instructions for structural, system and electrical installations and assemblies on the aircraft.
  • Define the tools required for manufacturing or assembly of aircraft components.
  • Create and revise supplemental planning documentation to fully define the build sequence of the aircraft assembly and sub-assemblies.
  • Record and submit Change requests for changes to build, design and tools required to improve efficiency and quality of builds including Make vs Buy decisions.
  • Investigate root cause of manufacturing problems and liaise with other functions to analyze potential solutions by evaluating cost, impacts and risks of a change in production.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including internal/external audits.
  • Assist Supply Chain and Suppliers to work through technical challenges in manufacturing.
  • Assist Planning in execution of Non-Conformance Management Tasks (i.e... Work order instructions).
  • Assist Area Managers in developing plans to increase efficiency including acquisition and implementation of new equipment.
  • Assist in developing and rolling out technical skills training for manufacturing and assembly personnel to support the QMS.
  • Assist training of Production, QC and Methods Engineering and co-op personnel.
Education Required
  • Degree or diploma in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
Experience, skills and attitude
Required
  • 5+ years of progressive hands-on experience in a large component manufacturing environment, preferably in the aerospace industry.
  • Previous experience in a Manufacturing Engineering, planning or Methods role.
  • Knowledge of the fabrication and assembly of aircraft parts.
  • Working knowledge of cost accounting and cost estimating.
  • Knowledge of Aerospace engineering and manufacturing principles and techniques.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and process design issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret aircraft engineering drawings.
  • Advanced knowledge in MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiar with computer aided design software such as CATIA, Envoia, etc.
  • Familiar with one or more Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software systems.
  • Ability to manage and act on multiple projects and priorities at one time.
  • Innovative thinking and have a good decision-making process.
  • Strong customer focus and good interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
  • Maintain strict adherence to De Havilland Aircraft of Canada (DHC) Health & Safety Policies.
  • Work in various environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, confined spaces, heights, and around chemicals.
  • Must be able to climb, stand, kneel, lift (up to 50 pounds), push, pull, bend, reach, carry, walk, crawl, balance, and use stairs.
  • Must be able to work shift rotations including weekends and/or night shifts, on-call or overtime as occasionally required.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for workplace safety.
  • Ensure the ability to maintain a positive fit test when mask use is necessary.
