Job description

Your Growth

Driving lasting impact and building long-term capabilities with our clients is challenging work. You are the kind of person who thrives in a high-performance, high-reward culture—embracing hard tasks, resiliently bouncing back from setbacks, and persistently seeking new ways forward.
In return for your drive, determination, and curiosity, we will provide resources, mentorship, and opportunities to help you develop into a stronger leader more quickly than you might expect. Your colleagues—at all levels—will invest in your growth as much as they invest in delivering exceptional results for clients. Every day, you will receive apprenticeship, coaching, and exposure that will accelerate your development in unique ways.
Joining us means you will have:
  • Continuous learning: Our culture of learning and apprenticeship, supported by structured programs, is designed to help you grow. We foster an environment where feedback is clear, actionable, and focused on your development. The real growth happens when you embrace feedback and own your learning journey.
  • A voice that matters: From day one, your ideas and contributions are valued. You will make a tangible impact by offering innovative ideas and practical solutions. Diverse perspectives are encouraged and essential for achieving the best outcomes.
  • Global community: With colleagues across 65+ countries and over 100 nationalities, our diversity fuels creativity and enables us to deliver optimal solutions for our clients. You will learn from exceptional colleagues with varied backgrounds and experiences.
  • World-class benefits: Alongside a competitive salary (based on location, experience, and skills), we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, mental health, and vision coverage for you, your spouse/partner, and children.

Your Impact

MineSpans, part of McKinsey’s global Metals and Mining practice, provides mining companies with strategic business intelligence to analyze markets and industry dynamics.
It combines advanced analytics, a comprehensive database of mining operations, and global expertise. MineSpans helps clients evaluate costs, supply and demand, and other key metrics across commodities like iron ore, copper, gold, EV-battery materials, steel, aluminum, and more. You will work with our MineSpans team in Toronto.
As a Metals & Mining Research Analyst at McKinsey, you will conduct in-depth research and develop analytical insights across various metals and mining commodities. You will maintain and enhance a global mining database, analyze cost structures, supply-demand dynamics, and project economics, and produce knowledge-sharing materials. Collaborating closely with McKinsey consultants, you will support client engagements with high-quality data and analysis. You will also mentor junior team members and coordinate research efforts, playing a key role at the intersection of data, strategy, and industry expertise. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact in the dynamic metals and mining sector.
You will deepen your sector expertise while developing skills in market modeling, strategic analysis, and data storytelling. You will work with colleagues in Toronto and globally, gaining exposure to cutting-edge research and high-impact client work.

Your qualifications and skills

  • Undergraduate degree in business, economics, geology, mining engineering, mineral economics, metallurgy, chemical engineering, or a related field
  • 1+ years of relevant experience (including internships or co-op terms) in market research, economic analysis, supply-demand modeling, or industry intelligence
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for data-driven insights
  • Interest in the metals and mining industry and global commodity markets
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Strong communication skills — written and verbal
