About the role
The Metallurgical Laboratory Technician performs a variety of metallurgical and mineral processing laboratory tests for characterization and benefaction of ores in support of the mining industry. The technician will work safely and meticulously to generate quality lab results for reporting to clients. Previous related experience is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory-scale metallurgical testing including Froth Flotation, Roasting/Calcination, Leaching, Gravity Concentration, Magnetic Separation, etc.
- Conduct comminution testing including work index and drop weight testing.
- Crush, grind, pulverize, blend, and split samples for further testing and analysis.
- Wet and dry sieve samples for particle size analysis.
- Record laboratory data, observations, maintain logs, forms, and electronic spreadsheets.
- Conduct wet chemistry methods including solution preparation/dilution, reagent preparation, solution filtration, and titrations.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as balances, pH/electrochemical meters, laser particle size analyzers, etc.
- Complete other mining-related support lab tests such as ASTM materials testing.
- Adjust and maintain mechanical equipment on laboratory crushers, mills, etc.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by complying with all safety policies and regulations.
- Follow standard methods and established procedures to ensure analytical quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
About you
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality.
- Organized, highly motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of Math and Chemistry is preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Excel is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Experience with LIMS software is beneficial.
- Experience with basic mechanical maintenance is beneficial.
- Experience operating forklifts is beneficial.
- Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal).
Required Qualifications
- 3 to 7+ years of experience in metallurgical/mineral processing laboratory work, assay laboratory work, or related industrial fields.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks with manual dexterity.
- Wearing issued PPE including safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed shoes, lab coat/coveralls, and respirators as required.
- Ability to stand for a full shift and sit for desk work as needed.
