Metallurgical Engineer
Job Details

Job Opportunity: MATERIALS/METALLURGICAL ENGINEER CALGARY

Location: Calgary, AB

Position: Full-time

Start Date: Immediately

Reporting to: Branch Manager

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct on-site and laboratory materials/metallurgical investigations
  2. Conduct on-site and laboratory mechanical failures investigations
  3. Provide concise written reports with professional opinion regarding the origin and cause of the failure
  4. Timely oral and written correspondence with clients in all phases of investigations, mediations or trials
  5. Complete various design and reporting functions through the use of Microsoft Office
  6. Provide expert testimony in court when required
  7. Travel throughout Alberta and possibly other locations on short notice
  8. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and execute all phases according to internal and client standards
  9. Staying on the leading edge of scientific knowledge in the industry by seeking out continuous training and education
  10. Collaborate with experts in other disciplines as needed for complex investigations requiring different specialties
  11. Coordinate/execute parallel investigations with other experts representing various parties
  12. Review and interpret applicable codes and standards
  13. Perform additional duties as required
Experience and Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Materials/Metallurgical Engineering
  2. Minimum of 5 years experience in the forensic industry
  3. Experience in fractography of metallic and non-metallic materials at both macroscopic and microscopic level
  4. Experience in mechanical failures
  5. Understanding and interpretation of analytical results by means of ICP-MS, FTIR, GC-MS, DSC, XRD
  6. Understanding of materials interaction with surrounding environment
  7. Understanding of mechanical systems
  8. Registered Alberta P.Eng license
  9. Valid Canadian driver’s license and access to a vehicle
