Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Edmonton invites applications for a Mental Health Therapist at the Day Hospital, a day program offering assessment, crisis intervention and stabilization without beds. You will work with an interdisciplinary team to provide both individual and group treatments for diverse mental health presentations.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Psychology or related field with clinical mental health training.
• Active registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment and individual and group treatment to patients with acute mental health and/or addiction concerns.

Job description

Day Hospital is a short-term intensive clinical program that provides assessment, intervention, crisis management, and stabilization for clients 17 and up who are experiencing an acute mental health and/or addiction presentation that require intensive services to prevent a formal inpatient admission. Like an inpatient unit but with no beds, clients attend programming during the day and return home or to their community setting each evening. In this Mental Health Therapist (MHT) position you will work within an interdisciplinary team to provide assessment and individual and group treatment to patients with a wide variety of clinical presentations. The ideal candidate will be flexible, be able to multitask and effectively manage multiple priorities and demands.

Description:

As a Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs will be considered: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. With: Related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or Considerable experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Full Registration with respective regulatory College under the Health Professions Act. Applicants registered with ACSW must have authorization to perform restricted psychosocial interventions. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Minimum of 5 years of relevant addiction and mental health experience, preferably in a community setting. Critical thinking skills, advanced working knowledge of the assessment and management of concurrent disorders and evidenced-based treatment is required. Advanced knowledge of comprehensive risk assessment and safety planning is required. Experience with group facilitation is a must. Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and seek consultation when necessary. Ability to ambulate, climb stairs, and move quickly without limitations in a variety of environments.
