Job description

Reporting to the Program Manager of Community Crisis Services, the Mobile Response Team Mental Health Clinician (MHC) works as a fully contributing member of an interdisciplinary team providing crisis intervention, consultation, assessment, referral, advocacy, and stabilization to clients experiencing acute mental health concerns. Staff work out of the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre providing 24/7 telephone and in person care to individuals anywhere within Calgary city limits and south, including Okotoks, High River, and Diamond Valley. Calls are received from the Distress Centre, police, professionals, and non-professionals (i.e. family members, friends, neighbors, etc.). The MHC can assist in the creation of a plan with the caller, which may include meeting with the identified client to provide resources, helping mitigate the crisis, or completing a crisis mental health assessment. This can occur in the client’s home, a Recovery Alberta location, or elsewhere in the community with consideration to safety and privacy. MRT is the core team responsible for psychosocial response in the event of a disaster or mass casualty event. The MH Clinician must be able to provide psychological first aid and other stepped-care responses when deployed by ZEOC. The Clinician provides input to client care planning and to the team's clinical decision-making related to psychosocial factors, barriers and dynamics. Critical clinical decisions of life-threatening proportions are made on a frequent basis in order to assure the safety of clients and the community as well as to plan appropriate assessment and treatment follow-up. The MH Clinician must make such decisions spontaneously and independently.
